You’ve spent a lot of time and energy to create a resume that “wows” them. Now you need a great cover letter to introduce yourself and your resume to potential employers. Your cover letter is an important part of a job application and gives you an opportunity to highlight skills and experience that may otherwise be overlooked. Use this free inspector cover letter sample and industry-specific tips that follow to get started.

Dear Mr. Williams,

Attached is my resume in application for the inspector position at your company. I am skilled in this role and I believe I am the right candidate for this job.

I have worked in the construction industry for many years, starting right after high school and working in various construction trades. I have developed skills in many different areas, from drywall to framing, carpentry, and more. Your job posting asked for candidates with knowledge of local and national building codes. As a construction foreman here in New York, my responsibilities included ensuring that projects met those same codes, so I have a very good grasp of these requirements.

Inspectors are responsible for verifying that buildings are structurally sound, meet codes and zoning requirements, and also follow contract specs. As a foreman, those were my goals, too. I oversaw a crew of several workers and enforced proper use of materials, tools and construction quality to meet these requirements.

As an experienced tradesman, I have the abilities to be a good inspector. I would enjoy discussing my qualifications further in an interview setting.

Use the hiring manager’s name to make your letter more noticeable. Another good idea is to have a family member or friend read over the letter before you submit it.
